What is the Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is a government grant provided to schools to help close the educational attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. It also supports pupils with parents in the armed forces (known as the 'service premium').

Who is Eligible?

The Pupil Premium is available for students who meet specific eligibility criteria, which include:

• Pupils eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last six years
• Looked-after children (LAC)
• Children who have ceased to be looked after by a local authority
• Pupils from families with parents in the armed forces

How Much Funding Does the School Receive?

The amount of Pupil Premium funding varies based on the number of eligible pupils and their specific circumstances. This funding is allocated annually, based on data collected from school censuses in October and January. The amount received this year is included in the statement below.

At St Claudine’s, our Pupil Premium students are a key priority across all aspects of school life. Our strategy is built on a simple principle: students facing additional barriers should receive the highest levels of support, challenge and opportunity so that they can thrive academically, socially and personally.

Rather than viewing Pupil Premium as a separate initiative, we place these students at the centre of our day-to-day decision-making. Staff are encouraged to consider Pupil Premium students first when planning learning, monitoring progress and providing enrichment opportunities. This ensures that support is proactive, consistent and embedded into the culture of the school. Our aim is to close attainment gaps, improve attendance, increase participation and ensure that every student has access to the experiences that help them succeed.

The Five Strands of Our Strategy

• Lessons
  Pupil Premium students are prioritised within the classroom through thoughtful seating plans, high-quality modelling, regular checking for understanding and targeted feedback. This helps ensure that every student receives the support and challenge needed to make strong progress.
• Monitoring
  Attendance, punctuality and academic progress are closely monitored. Where concerns arise, early intervention enables staff to provide timely support and remove barriers to learning.
• Rewards
  We actively recognise achievement, effort and improvement. Pupil Premium students are prioritised for rewards and recognition when earned, helping to build confidence, motivation and a strong sense of belonging.
• Extra-Curricular Opportunities
  Participation beyond the classroom is encouraged by prioritising Pupil Premium students for clubs, teams and enrichment activities, supporting wider personal development and engagement with school life.
• Trips and Visits
  Educational visits and cultural experiences broaden horizons and enrich learning. Pupil Premium students are prioritised when planning and promoting trips, ensuring they benefit fully from these valuable opportunities.
